My next camera will be....

A point and shoot? It seems counterintuitive to go from a DSLR to a PS camera, but the Lumix LX3 might just do the trick. It's small and Leica-esque. It has a fast wide-angle lens at (2.0, 24mm equivalent). Best thing is that it can synch up to a shutter speed of 2000th of a second! Wicked. Perfect for balancing the sun in portraits.

I've been reading about it for some time and will try to actually play with it a little at the local camera store. I'm hoping that I can use it to replace my DSLR for some assignments. It's super light (compared to my current kit) and would be perfect for bicycle touring or just to have around with me. I use to ALWAYS have a camera with me, but these days they stay home unless it's an assignment. Part of this is that I view them as work tools now, rather than toys and I'd rather not bring them out if I could break or lose them.

Now if I can just save up the scratch and buy it before the next bicycle adventure...

That looks like a fantastic camera. I love having both a DSLR and a point & shoot, for exactly the reasons you outlined. Looking forward to seeing what you do with your new camera!

Hey man! I know about you via Johnathan on Twitter. Have you looked a the Canon G9 / G10. A little bigger, but folks seem to dig that camera too.

Warm Regards,
David Martinez
