Tattoos....
Shot a portrait of a winner of a tattoo contest for DW. Carpooled with him to Orange, which saved me a few hours of pedaling today :)

BTWD 2008
Bike to Work Day was a success this year. We were able to engage a lot of people from the community and get lots of people involved. You can read a longer account here.
Here are some snaps of my Bilenky loaded with water bottles, juice bottles and other event material. Attached to the back is a Burley flatbed.

New camera...first assignment!!!
Bought a Nikon D300 today to be my primary body. My setup until now has been a D200 as primary and D100 as backup. The D100 is so outdated that it's about time to send it to pasture. A little sad, as it was my first entry into digital SLRs...but times are a changing. No longer can you expect to buy one camera that will last "forever."
Anyway, only a few hours after I bought the D300, I got a chance to use it on assignment. Some snaps from a portrait session with a boxing gym owner and a young fighter that has plans to go pro soon.

OC Weekly cover this week!
Shot the cover story of the OCWeekly this week. It was a series of portraits of some indie film makers in HB. They were fun to work with and good guys. I brought out my Norman 200B to overpower the sun on the beach shots but when I was testing it the battery died! I ended up doing the shoot with my small Nikon SB-26 strobe, over powering the sun at 12 noon! It worked out well.
I had envisioned the boom mic coming into the image for a little humor and to get across the indie film feel. Just one of those ideas I came up while riding the bike. I thought it came out well!

Stuffed...
Rode the bike out to Seal Beach and beyond. First stop was a real treat. One of my fave places of all time, Beachwood BBQ. I was super happy to see that I was scheduled to shoot them today (didn't hurt that Gabe whipped up some killer ribs). Second location was a few miles down Seal Beach Blvd. to WineStyles. Shot in the back tasting room that had some nice ambient lighting.

The Bilenky in action...
Some snaps of the Bilenky in action...
The Bilenky front end is pretty roomy and robust, but isn't prepared to carry much out of the box.
I taped up some old tubes to save the paint from being scratched up by cargo.
I've been using some marine safety netting wrapped around the rack several times to create a sling to carry things.
I can tuck a tripod and a canvas roll with a lightstand, softbox and umbrella on the "shelf" of the rack. They act to support the load above as well.
A side view of the rack with my stands on the bottom tier and a Pelican case with my camera gear on the top tier. All of it strapped down with some heavy duty tie-downs from West Marine.
My mobile studio!
The view from the cockpit.
